The U.S. Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team is off to a great start in the Rio 2016 Paralympics. Team USA won its first game 75-38 over Brazil on September 8. On September 9, Team USA defeated Germany 77-52, then defeated the team from the Islamic Republic of Iran 93-44 on September 10. Team USA continued its winning streak September 11 with a 92-24 win over Algeria. Team USA defeated Great Britain 65-48 to win pool play on Monday, September 12.
Fairfax graduate John Gilbert is a member of the U.S. Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team. He has seen action in the games, and Fairfax residents heard his name announced during at least one game.
The men’s quarterfinals will be played Wednesday, September 14, and the semifinal games will be Thursday, September 15. The bronze medal match and gold medal match will be played Saturday, September 17.
