The United Methodist churches at Rock Port and Watson will come together for the beginning of Lent for an Ash Wednesday Service at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, in the Rock Port UMC sanctuary.
Lent is a forty-day season that traditionally has been used as a time to help prepare candidates for baptism on Easter, to assist those who have felt estranged to find reconciliation with God and the Church. The Ash Wednesday service will include the imposition of ashes on the participants as a reminder of their mortality, and how God desires reconciliation with all humanity.
Pastor Bruce Jeffries will let the Psalms in the Revised Common Lectionary be the focus of worship during Lent 2017. Services at Watson UMC begin at 9 a.m. each Sunday morning, followed by Sunday School. Rock Port UMC has Sunday School for all ages at 9:30 a.m. with worship following at 10:45 a.m. Both buildings are accessible.
