Believed by some persons to have been a vivid rainbow, although there was no rain falling at the time, several bright sun dogs were seen in the sky within a huge circle last Sunday afternoon. It is a phenomenon of cold weather and by some is taken as a sign that colder weather is in prospect. This “sign” must have some authority, judging from the intense cold which visited these parts on Monday and Tuesday.

Workmen at the Missouri Beef Packing plant at Phelps City returned to work Monday after walking off the job January 31 over a chain speed dispute. Company officers reported that all but eight men reported for work at their scheduled times Monday and Tuesday. Starting with work Monday the chain was moving at 170 head per hour; five above the speed at the time of the walk out when the company indicated they were going to speed up operations.
