The high school band and choir students in Atchison County gathered in the Rock Port R-II Gym Monday, February 25, for the 64th annual Atchison County Band Day. The band was led by Dr. Robert Pippin, Director for the Northwest Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Professor of Low Brass and Music Education. The band played four songs including “Skyfall,” “Jurassic Park,” “With Every Winter’s Breath,” and “The Liberty Bell.”

The choir, pictured under the direction of Abby Palmer, performed three songs, including “The River,” “We Sing for the Children,” and “Back Home.”

The Rock Port R-II Gym was filled with band and choir students from all three Atchison County schools on Monday, February 25, 2019. The students were participating in the 64th annual Atchison County Band Day, which has been a special event for our local musicians since 1955. The students are usually led by directors Abby Palmer (Rock Port), Debra Wyatt (Fairfax), and Melody Barnett and Amy Haddock (Tarkio). This year’s performance also included guest director Dr. Robert Pippin, Director of Northwest Symphony Orchestra, Assistant Professor of Low Brass and Music Education, and Co-Director of the Northwest Summer Music Camp.

The band performed four songs: “Skyfall” by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth and arranged by Johnnie Vinson; “Jurassic Park” by John Williams and arranged by Johnnie Vinson; “With Every Winter’s Breath” by Randall D. Standridge; and “The Liberty Bell” by John Philip Sousa and arranged by Story.
