Atchison County Boy Scout Troop 88 and Burlington Junction Troop 407 hosted 38 scouts and 13 leaders for the Scouts BSA Loess Hills District Fall Camporee September 10-12. Local Troop 88 includes nine scouts, including five from Tarkio, three from Fairfax, and one from Rock Port. The visiting scouts were mostly from the Nodaway County area.

The scouts were able to camp near the rodeo grounds, and had a busy rodeo-themed weekend of merit badge classes, cooking, knot-tying, a stickhorse rodeo, a roping competition, gaga ball, capture the flag, a movie in the park, and a dance by the tribe of Mic-O-Say. Merit badge classes that were offered included: Welding, Scouting Heritage, Salesmanship, Electricity, Citizenship in the Community.

Local organizations and companies that helped make this event a success included the following: Tarkio Parks & Recreation Board, Tarkio Rodeo Association, Tarkio Rotary Club, Riley’s Auto Service, Tarkio High School, MDT Market, Rays’ Dairy Diner, and True 2 U Autobody & Repair.
