• Edgar Powell has purchased the interest of Clarence Cooper in the Standard Station at the junction of highways 59 and 4. The business is now known as the Powell Service Station.
• Tags bearing the name Tarkio and picturing an Indian are being sold by members of the pep squad of Tarkio High School in order to raise money for the organization. The tags are to be attached to the top of the license plates on cars.
• Charles Thompson has purchased from Nelle Good the building which houses the Parr Shoe Shop and Nora’s Beauty Shop.
• Jack McKillip, owner of Jack’s Shoe Repair Shop, has purchased from E.J. Evans the building which has been occupied by the Royal Cafe. He will move his business to that location. There is an apartment in the rear of the building where Mr. and Mrs. McKillip will make their home.
January 20, 1972
• The mercury rose to 51 degrees on the 18th after a low of minus 12 degrees on the 15th. There were traces of precipitation according to Lester Morton, local official weather observer.
• L/Col. and Mrs. Charles Enos, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jackson, Don Slemp, and Mr. and Mrs. Abie Showalter left Tuesday to attend the Denver Stock Show. Tom Jackson, herdsman for McPherson Farms and Showalter, will be showing registered Galloway cattle at the show, which is the largest in the country.
• Top winners in the longest pheasant tail feather contest conducted by Larry Freeman at the First National Bank were Darryl Lowrey of Tarkio, Richard Yost and Dale Yost of Westboro, and Steve Rolf of Tarkio. Lowrey and Richard Yost tied for first with feathers of 25 3/8 inches in length and Rolf and Dale Yost tied for second with feathers measuring 25 inches.
January 16, 1997
• The Tarkio Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting of the new year January 9, 1997, at 10th Street Restaurant in Tarkio. The 1997 officers are Kalvin McIntosh, president; Kristi McEnaney, vice-president; Karen Clark, treasurer; and Sam Nelson, Betsy Chapin, Leland Crapson, Don Jagger, and Will Johnson, board members.
• The Tarkio City Council met on Tuesday, January 7, 1997, for its regular monthly meeting with all council members present. Mayor Vilas Jones remarked that the city has received a 4-wheel drive Dodge pickup. This pickup, which was at no cost to the city, can only be used for the control of drugs.
• The 1997 Tarkio High School Wrestling Homecoming King and Queen are Brian Heits and Nicole Vette.
