University of Missouri Extension will host free farm tax workshops in December to update farmers and ranchers on farm and individual tax filings.
MU Extension agriculture business specialist Mary Sobba said farmers can attend via Zoom or in person at locations throughout the state. Attendees can choose either from the following sessions:
• Thursday, December 1, 12:30-2:45 p.m. (Zoom)
• Tuesday, December 6, 6:15-8:30 p.m. (This in-person session will be held at the MU Extension Center in Buchanan County, 4125 Mitchell Ave., St. Joseph, Missouri. Email deniceferguson@missouri.edu or call 816-279- 1691.)
Topics include farm income averaging, bonus vs. Section 179 depreciation, income leveling techniques, charitable contributions, weather-related sales of livestock, health savings accounts, like-kind exchanges and 1099s. Attendees will learn about IRS resources and updates that farmers and ranchers find helpful.
