Deputy Andrew Riley, middle, received a Life Saving Award from the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday, May 1.

The Nodaway County Sheriff’s Office recently recognized Deputy Andrew Riley for his outstanding efforts in service to the community and their fellow deputies.

On September 30, 2023, Deputy Andrew Riley of Tarkio, Missouri, was dispatched to a disturbance call. While enroute, dispatch informed him that a subject at the disturbance was threatening self-harm.

On arrival Deputy Riley found an adult male in a tree with a noose around his neck. The man was despondent over a family issue and he was threatening to hang himself. Utilizing crisis intervention skills, Deputy Riley was able to convince the man to remove the noose from his neck and to climb out of the tree. Deputy Riley was able to transport this individual to a medical facility for a mental health evaluation.
