The Atchison and Holt County American Legions came together once again to honor the fallen veterans on Memorial Day. Starting at Mound City, they travelled to Craig before coming to the Fairfax City Park where there were several people gathered. There were five stops in Atchison County: Fairfax City Park, Atchison County Memorial Building in Rock Port, St. John’s Cemetery and Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, and Home Cemetery, Tarkio. At each location the Legion performed a full service and Crystal Woodring sang the national anthem while the flag was lowered to half staff. Tarkio Legion Commander Tim Morehouse welcomed everyone to the ceremony and introduced the guest speaker, Shawn Harper, who brought out the patriotic side of all in attendance. Legion members laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier followed by three volleys and the playing of “Taps” by Roger Pennel.
