June 17, 1949

• Mr. and Mrs. Robert Goble have bought the residence of the late Mrs. John Robenstine at 212 North Seventh Street.

• Funeral services will be held at Davis Funeral Home Wednesday for Pfc. Billy O. Brunk, who was killed in action in Germany April 26, 1945. Pfc. Brunk was killed while serving with an infantry division of General Patton’s Third Army. He went overseas January 22, 1945.

• Attendance is increasing daily at the summer recreation program being conducted at the community park. Enrollment was 38 on opening day Monday and jumped to 59 on Wednesday. Croquet, horseshoes, croquet golf, softball, boxing, and a ring toss game are included in the sports program.

• The White Spot Cafe reopened last Saturday afternoon under the management of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Pennington. They have been in the restaurant business for many years and operated restaurants in Tacoma and Richland, Washington, before returning to Missouri.

June 20, 1974

• Over 200 people attended the retirement and birthday party of Lt. Col. Charles Enos held at McPherson Farms on Sunday. Lt. Col. Enos completed 32 years serving with the Air National Guard.

• Charles St. Clair, Tarkio High School Class of 1966, is helping to sail a yacht, the Baccahanal, to Copenhagen. The voyage began from Palma, Spain, on April 29. After battling gales eight days up the coast of Portugal, the sailors reached Arcachon, France, in early June.  Their next scheduled stop is Ostend, Belgium, and they hope to reach Copenhagen around the first of July.

• Graveside services were held Thursday for Frank F. Peterson at Tarkio Home Cemetery. Frank was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during WWI. He was very active in the American Legion Post No. 199 where he had served as commander for several years and had been presented the 50 year pin. He was also the owner and operator of Peterson Feeds and Seeds until his retirement in 1954.

• An open house at the newly redecorated and refurnished Tarkio Library will be Sunday. The improvements include new shelving and a beautiful restoration of the old oak library desk done by Merl “Mickey” McNeal.

• In recognition of her endeavors and contributions to sports and physical education, Miss Donna M. Rushwick, an assistant professor of physical education at Tarkio College, has been selected to study in Europe this summer.

June 17, 1999

• A total of 121 children attended Vacation Bible Schools held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, United Methodist Church, and St. John’s and St. Paul’s Lutheran Churches.

• The Tarkio Rodeo was held Friday and Saturday, June 11 and 12. Approximately 900 people attended the rodeo and there were 237 entries. John Currie of Tarkio won the bull riding event. The team of Clint Tatum and Matt Wennihan of Tarkio finished third in the team roping on Saturday. Marvin Southard was the Tarkio Rodeo Parade Grand Marshal.

• Vicki Wooten of Tarkio is the manager of the Tarkio Municipal Pool. There are 15 lifeguards.

• Harold and Dorothy Peregrine of Tarkio have opened up a new business in town, Peregrine Sales and Service. The shop is located at 102 Walnut. Services offered include: wash and vacuum, wash and wax, interior condition/shampoo, full detail, compound only, compound/full detail, ozone machine and shampoo inside to include carpet and upholstery.
