Two people were injured after a vehicle overturned in Atchison County Friday evening, February 14, at 5:50 p.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the accident occurred on northbound U.S. Highway 275 at Route CC when a 1998 Toyota 4Runner, driven by a 54-year-old male from Hamburg, Iowa, began skidding on the snow covered roadway. The vehicle slid off the north side of the road before striking a fence and continuing into a field. It then overturned and came to rest on its top facing south off the north side of the road.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken by an Atchison-Holt ambulance to Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg with moderate injuries. A 49-year-old female occupant from Hamburg, who was also wearing a seat belt, suffered serious injuries and was taken by a Fremont County, Iowa, ambulance to Grape Community Hospital. The Toyota 4Runner sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Double M Towing of Rock Port, Missouri.
The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. K. L. Ebersold, who was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, Atchison-Holt Ambulance Service, Rock Port Fire Department, and Hamburg Fire and Rescue.
