The Atchison County Commission met Thursday, July 10, 2025. Present were: Presiding Commissioner Curtis Livengood, North District Commissioner Jim Quimby, South District Commissioner Richard Burke, and Susette Taylor, Clerk of the Commission.
Presiding Commissioner Livengood called the meeting to order.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Bills were reviewed and approved for payment.
Month-end department reports were reviewed and approved.
Maintenance Supervisor Jack Wiley met with the commission to report that there was a leak in the roof with the recent heavy rain. He has reached out to Titus Roofing. They have since been onsite and did some additional sealing along some seams.
Megan Twyman, administrator at Pleasant View Nursing Home, reached out to the commission to report some extensive damage to a wall in the dining area due to termites. The building has been treated but will be treated again when the wall is opened for repair. County Maintenance Supervisor Wiley went and inspected the site for the commission and reported that he contacted someone to address the needed concerns.
Sheriff Andy Riley was in to discuss department matters.

The Atchison County Commission met Thursday, July 17, 2025. Present were: Presiding Commissioner Curtis Livengood, North District Commissioner Jim Quimby, South District Commissioner Richard Burke, and Susette Taylor, Clerk of the Commission.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Bills were reviewed and approved for payment.
Clerk Taylor presented a grant request from Emergency Management/911 Director Rhonda Wiley to utilize some leftover Homeland Security grant funds to purchase two new AED machines for the county and replace the existing ones. The commissioners voted to approve the request.
Jim Crawford, University Extension, stopped in to meet with the commission. He reported that the Atchison County Fair was in progress, and they would be providing drone operation training soon.
Sheriff Riley met with the commission to report that the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District had donated a radio he had planned to use for his vehicle, but after having it inspected it is not working as needed. He will be bidding for a new one.
Road and Bridge Supervisor Kenny Wallace was in and presented a state bid for a new Bush Hog mower. He reported that they have had continued issues with the current mower and felt this new model would serve the needs of the department better. After reviewing the bid and discussion, the commissioners voted to accept the state bid for the mower. Supervisor Wallace said they will make the needed repairs to the John Deere mower and sell it.
