The Atchison County Library would like to extend its gratitude to a long list of community members who have recently contributed to various projects, as well as share many new events happening at the library.

Updates and maintenance have been done to the Fairfax Branch to help prevent water damage and leaks. A local business donated their time, resources and gravel to clear away grass so that the back of the library could be easily maintained. After that was finished, a neighbor of the library, who did not wish to be recognized or reimbursed, took time and their own resources to build a small retaining wall to help keep the rock contained. The library is so grateful for their support and graciousness.

In Tarkio, the Resource Center has received memorial funds from the Marilyn Wilcox family, who would like to help the library create an extended area for children to use the library for entertainment, tech and creative space. Another memorial, given by friends and family of Lois Powell, a longtime library board member, will be used to create a memorial tree placard in the new library in Rock Port when it is built.

The library employees have also been hard at work making sure its collections are up to date and cover all of the patrons’ favorite topics. A few new DVD releases, including Disney + Pixar’s Elio, Lilo and Stitch, and Jurassic Park Rebirth have been added. The library received two new Vox Books, made possible by donations from Luke Therapy Services. These books are children’s books with an audio companion so that children learning to read can listen to the book as they follow along. The books are “Gus the Bus” and “Save the Orca.” The library has also been invited to all area schools for story times with the elementary classes. The library staff is busy and we love it!

For the next Speaker Series, the library will host poet Barbara Cochran from Maryville, Missouri, on Thursday, October 23, and author Trinette Olin, a former Tarkio resident, will share about her children’s book in November.
