• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “The Eagle and the Hawk” with John Payne, Rhonda Fleming, and Dennis O’Keefe, “The Reformer and the Redhead” with Dick Powell, June Allyson, and David Wayne, and “So Dear to My Heart.”
• Reasons other than the lack of wherewithal may cause many Atchison Countians to have to do without their Thanksgiving turkey this year. H.J. Donelson of the Donelson Turkey Farm at Fairfax reports that low flying planes have frightened his turkeys into stampedes, which have caused serious injuries and deaths to the turkeys.
• E.C. Whitford has purchased the stock of merchandise and has leased the Standard Service Station at Fairfax. Don Ray and Bob Taylor are employed at the station. Walter Umbarger and son, Raymond, have operated the station two years.
October 16, 1975
• Mrs. Mary McEnaney celebrated her 104th birthday Tuesday, October 14, while a patient at Community Hospital in Fairfax. A native of Westboro, Mary also lived part of her life in Oklahoma and Kansas.
• The undefeated Fairfax Bulldogs will face the undefeated Tarkio Indians in Fairfax’s homecoming football game Friday night, October 17. Homecoming queen and king candidates are Beri Wennihan, Debbie Moses, Dawn Ilsley, Jan Norton, Jerri Strough, Gary Taylor, Don Calfee, Mike Harrington, Mark Smith, and Glen Arnold.
• Eveta Adams, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Adams, completed the 50 mile, two day competitive trail ride at Indian Cave State Park Sunday, October 12, and swept her division of riders by winning three trophies. Eveta won first in the youth division open ride and first in horsemanship and her horse was awarded a plaque from the International Arabian Horse Association as top Arabian in the competition.
• Through arrangements with International Harvester, two agricultural officials from Africa and two from France spent a day in the Fairfax area last week. E.C. Carter, manager of the Fairfax Implement, served as their host and escorted the men to a number of local fields being harvested.
October 12, 2000
• Cheryl and John Brown of Fairfax are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Tyler Scott. Tyler was born at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax October 6. Tyler, who weighed seven pounds and 12 ounces, is also welcomed home by big brother, Trevor, age 3 1/2.
• A new parking lot is being constructed at Community Hospital Association in Fairfax. The lot is being completed in three different stages to assure parking for patients and visitors, as well as emergency care, will not be affected.
• Fairfax science students launched rockets they built on Friday, September 29, at the Fairfax football field.
• K.C. Wolf, the Kansas City Chiefs football mascot, visited Fairfax students September 28. Dan Meers gave an interesting talk about his job as K.C. Wolf.
• DeWayne and Betty Johnson will observe their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, October 15, with their family at their home in Fairfax. They were married on October 14, 1950, in St. Joseph.
