• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Gun Crazy,” “Red Light,” and “Union Station” with William Holden, Barry Fitzgerald, and Nancy Olson.
• J.W. Hall of High Creek celebrated his 80th birthday on October 9. He was also married 49 years ago on that day. He received around 90 birthday cards.
• Lyda Eugene McKinney died at her home on West Mill Street Wednesday, October 11. She was born in Tigerville, South Carolina, on November 18, 1865, and came to Atchison County with her husband, John T. Williams, in 1892. For a number of years they lived on what was then known as the Wyatt Ranch, between Rock Port and Tarkio. Lyda was the oldest member of the Tarkio Baptist Church.
• O.A. Loomis, senior vice-commander of the Missouri American Legion, left by train late last week for Los Angeles, California, where he will attend the 32nd American Legion National Convention. Rex Shandy, Sam Kahn, and Ed Jennings are also attending the convention.

• The 1975 punt, pass, and kick contest was held October 4 at Blue Jay Stadium. Sponsored by Clark-Ford Mercury, the event saw 50 youngsters ages 8 to 13 competing.
• Showing at the Paramount Theatre in Rock Port: “Murder On The Orient Express” and “Return To Macon County.”
• Rock Port Junior High students numbering 120, as well as sponsors, traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, September 26 to see the Freedom Train. The 10-car exhibit of American history included a replica of the Liberty Bell, Abraham Lincoln’s rocking chair, a portrait of John F. Kennedy, and Bob Hope’s golf club.
• Rock Port High School Football Homecoming Royalty includes Jay Bowers, Jeff Long, Scott Chamberlain, Diana Gebhards, Lori Bogenreif, and Tammy Garst.
• A father and son team entered archery deer season October 7 when they harvested two bucks and checked them in at the Rock Port deer checking station. Ed Riley shot his deer with a 47 pound bow at 10 yards and his 16-year-old son, Ken, used a 45-pound bow shooting from 20 feet. Both deer were estimated to weigh around 140 to 150 pounds.

• Rock Port High School Homecoming Queen Hillary Chamberlain and King Brent Showalter were crowned at the football game Friday. Crownbearers were Alex Garst and Nate Chard.
• Neighbors demonstrated what it means to be from a small community. Randall Stoner underwent a five-way bypass and needed help with his crops. Twelve trucks, 10 combines, and lots of manpower harvested Mr. Stoner’s crops on October 2.
• The Booster Club sponsored a football jersey auction Tuesday, September 26. Willie Holmes volunteered his auctioneering skills. The Booster Club made $1,335.
• Business features of the month are Hughes Electric and State Farm Insurance. Rick Hughes is the owner and manager of Hughes Electric in Rock Port and Jason Perry and Mark Evans are two employees for Hughes Electric. State Farm in Rock Port is managed by Bill Andrews, who has been with the company for 14 years. Margie Johnson is the office manager.
• Merle and Ruth Fox of Rock Port will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on October 12th. They were married on that date in 1950 at the Methodist Church in Rock Port by Rev. Hauser Winter.
