The East Atchison Wolves high school football team traveled to Barnard, Missouri, Friday, October 10, 2025, to take on Platte Valley for the seventh game of the season.
Platte Valley elected to receive the ball to start the game. With a long drive, Platte Valley would put the first points on the board to give them the 6-0 lead. EA wasted no time answering back following the PV’s kick-off with a big run by running back Gavyn Irvine who went 40 plus yards for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, making the score 6-6. Platte Valley added two more scores to the board before the Wolves could find their rhythm late in the second quarter when quarterback Brody Wennihan hit receiver Parker Livengood on a deep pass for the second touchdown. The Wolves would go into halftime down by 6 points, 12-18.
To start the second half, EA received the ball and started on their own 4-yard line. Wennihan would hit Irvine on a screen pass that set up the next touchdown, moving the ball to the 24-yard line. Wennihan would take the snap with seconds to spare to punch the ball in, tying the game at 18-18. Platte Valley answered back to take the lead once again, 24-18. The Wolves defense came up with a big stop inside the 10-yard line with a Wennihan interception, but despite moving the ball the length of the field, Platte Valley would return the favor and intercept the Wolves’ ball at the goal line. In the fourth quarter, the Wolves’ fullback Tate Johnson would go 34 yards to find the endzone with 10:50 left on the clock. With the game tied 24-24, Wennihan found Livengood on another seam route to give the Wolves their first lead of the night with 4:24 left to play, making the score 30-24. The Wolves’ defense, who played well all night, would come up big again in the fourth quarter, recovering a fumble. With 3:48 remaining in the game and deep in their own territory, EA drove the ball down the field and on a quarterback keeper Wennihan added the final touchdown of the night. It was capped off with Johnson’s 2-point conversion, bringing the score to 38-24.
It was a good win for the Wolves, who will be at Tarkio on Friday night, October 17, to take on Stewartsville/Osborn. The senior football players, cheerleaders, golfers, cross country runners, and band members and their parents will be recognized in a Senior Night ceremony that night. It will also be Pink-Out Night with special activities taking place in honor and remembrance of local cancer victims. Come out and show your support!
