• Showing at the Fair Theatre in Fairfax: “The Gal Who Took The West” with Yvonne DeCarlo and Scott Brady, “The Lady Takes The Sailor” with Jane Wyman and Dennis Morgan, and “Captain Carey, U.S.A.” with Allan Ladd and Wanda Hendrix.

• Joseph Young Seymour passed away at his home in Fairfax Sunday. He was born January 24, 1876, on a farm near the town of Milton. With the exception of a few years spent on a ranch in Montana, he spent his entire life in Atchison County. He was a farmer, a rural mail carrier for the Fairfax Post Office, and of later years he was a trucker.

• Nelson Dixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Dixon, who served in Africa, Italy, France, and Germany during WWII with the noted airborne division, has been promoted to a captain. He is currently stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

• Ronald Francis Marcus, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Marcus of Rock Port, was dismissed from the Fairfax Community Hospital October 14 after being a patient in the hospital nursery since his premature birth August 28. Ronald Francis weighed only 3 pounds, 9 ounces at birth, and for several weeks occupied the incubator. When he was dismissed, he weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces.

October 23, 1975

• Mrs. Faye Bowness has recently returned from a trip that took her to all 13 of the original states of the United States. She was one of a tour group out of Lincoln.

• Members of the Fairfax Baptist Church joined forces to paint the house of fellow member Mrs. Ellen Swinehart on Saturday.

• The Tarkio Indians fought off a second half rally by the Fairfax Bulldogs and spoiled Fairfax’s homecoming football game Friday night with a score of 28-18. Debbie Moses was crowned homecoming queen and Gary Taylor was crowned king.

• Fairfax High School’s Barnwarming Royalty is Mike Harrington and Sara Kottman.

October 19, 2000

• Funeral services were held October 12 for Darrell L. Jones, 78, of Tarkio, formerly of Fairfax. After serving in WWII, Darrell farmed and was a substitute rural mail carrier for a number of years before retiring as Fairfax Postmaster after 25 years of service.

• Fairfax R-3 School is struggling to fill their football rosters. In 1987, Fairfax switched from 11-man football to 8-man because of not having enough athletes. Starting with the 2000 season, the Bulldogs were forced to cancel their junior high football games due to lack of players. The high school team has 13 players, but because of injuries, only 8 to 10 have been suited out for the games.

• The Fairfax Wolverine 4-H Club has decorated the barrels on Main Street for fall.

• Community for Kids Preschool students shared their tips on how to grow extra large pumpkins: Grant Hopkins – “First you would get a green stem and dip it in orange paint. Next you would put it in the dirt with some corn and peas to give it muscles.” Katie Beck – “Dig a small hole and put a pumpkin seed in it, then you add some water. Feed it beans 100 times and then put on more water.” Jase Barnes – “Take a pumpkin and rub it with water and squishy stuff. Feed it some seeds and it will grow tall as my dad.”
