Before the start of the Rock Port Veterans Day assembly several veterans walked the halls of the elementary and high school as students cheered them on.

 

Atchison County schools held assemblies on Veterans Day to honor those who have served our country. Fairfax fourth graders read about the branches of the military.

 

Tarkio veterans Jesse Payne and Chris Hogue were among the servicemen and women in attendance at the Tarkio High School Veterans Day assembly Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

 

Area veterans were given a standing ovation by the students and staff following the Veterans Day assembly at Rock Port High School.

 

Shawn Pierson, retired from the United States Army, was the guest speaker at the THS Veterans Day assembly.

 

The guest speaker for the Fairfax Veterans Day assembly was Kody Kemerling, retired Army Reserves Major.

 

The guest speaker at the Rock Port Veterans Day assembly was Major Thomas Herron, who shared his experience in the Army.

 

Fairfax fifth graders all researched a veteran. Presley Knight shared about her veteran at the assembly.

 

The Rock Port High School choir sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and “To Those Who Serve” led by Mrs. Abby Palmer. The choir was accompanied by Richard Boettner. 

 

Allen-Schiffern American Legion members Andy Riley and Jesse Payne carried in the colors to start the assembly off.

 

The junior high and high school band performed the Armed Forces Medley at the Fairfax Veterans Day assembly.

 

The men’s quartet, composed of Finn Hurst, Quin Staten, Jeremy Bomar, and Brody Wennihan, sang “Tell My Father.”

 

Legion members Bill Richards and Steve Duren fold the flag as member Mary Kahn read the meaning of the folds.

 

Bailey Wennihan was one of the student speakers at the Tarkio High School Veterans Day assembly.

 

Trevor Beatty, along with several veterans, answered questions from students about his time in the Navy.

 

The Fairfax R-3 kindergarten and preschool classes led everyone and the band played “The Star Spangled Banner.”
