The Village of Brownville is preparing to Celebrate the Holiday’s with decorated windows from years gone by.
River Inn & Resort owners Randel and Jane Smith stated, “We are beyond excited to celebrate this holiday season with a little nostalgia, the decorating of store front windows.”
Store owner, Kathy McKillip, shares “This project is a great way to share with others the old-time tradition of decorating the windows of businesses on Main Streets. As a little girl growing up in Nebraska City, I couldn’t wait to see the store front windows decorated for the holidays. The Store front windows decorated in New York City are showstoppers. Artist and designers work all year in preparing for the season unveiling. It is a perfect blend of utilizing the arts, history, culture and more, which essentially is what Brownville represents and stands for, still today.”
Artist Jim Aden stated, “We have had great fun here in Brownville preparing for the holiday season, and we hope everyone appreciates the effort. In addition to the decorated windows, the Governor Furnas walking trail has been lit with thousands of lights, so you can stroll along enjoying nature with a holiday glow.”
Top winning window display will receive a $100.00 cash award from the Brownville Cultural Center in celebration of utilizing past elements of business practices and culture while incorporating them into present designs. A Village of only 130 residents, Brownville is Nebraska’s oldest community established in 1854. It is home to more than seven museums, the Steam Boat Trace Trail, Nebraska’s oldest Repertory Theatre, Whiskey Creek Winery and the Brownville Concert Hall.
