Amie Schleicher, Regional Livestock Specialist, MU Extension, and Sam O’Riley, 4-H Youth Program Associate, MU Extension, on behalf of the Atchison County Fair Board
Market hogs, market lambs, and market goats will be weighed on Friday, May 5, at the Atchison County Fairgrounds in Rock Port, 6-8 p.m.
Market livestock (including market goats) are not required to be weighed at the official weigh-days but are required to weigh in at weigh-day in order to be eligible for in-county champion at the livestock show and/or the rate-of-gain contests.
We will take noseprints for the Missouri State Fair on market lambs and meat goats (no cost) and blood samples on market hogs ($3 each), and hair samples for DNA ID for Ak-Sar-Ben on meat goats/market hogs/market lambs ($5 each). Please be aware that market barrows will need ear notches for identification on blood sample cards for the Missouri State Fair.
This year’s fair is set for July 15-22. More details on the schedule, rules, and classes will be available soon.
John Walter, DVM, has asked the fair board to remind exhibitors that all sheep and goats must have health papers and scrapie tags for the fair.
The Missouri State Fair will be August 10-20, 2017 in Sedalia, Mo. Market barrow blood samples are due May 15, and market lamb and meat goat noseprints are due June 15. Livestock entries must be received by the state fair by June 30. Visit their website at mostatefair.com for the premium guide and entry forms.
New location for 2017! The Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Stock Show will be September 28-October 1 in Grand Island, Neb. at Fonner Park/the Nebraska State Fairgrounds.
