The Holt County Historical Society’s Genealogy and Research Center, 612 State Street, will be open all day Saturday, December 10, during Mound City’s “Christmas on State Street.” Doors will open at 8:00 a.m. offering “Christmas Memories” with a potpourri of holiday treasures . . . gifts, décor, antiques and collectables, along with their recently published cookbook, “Celebrating 175 Years of Holt County Cooking 1841-2016.” The 312-page cookbook is filled with recipes from the “best Holt County cooks,” along with early day photos and facts. Shoppers will find some new and some not-so-new donated holiday items.
“It’s a Small World” will be highlighted at the Society’s Methodist Church Museum, at Fortescue, on Sunday afternoon, December 11. There will be trees, nativities, and twinkling lights galore from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The sanctuary is filled throughout with the featured display of the over 1,000 piece village collection of Don Wright, St. Joseph. Tiny houses, people, buildings and other small accessories, along with additional holiday artifacts and displays, will be of interest to many. The Society’s cookbook will also be available for purchase that afternoon. There is no admission fee and anyone interested is welcome to stop by.
