Fairfax Kiwanians and local ministers exchanged the passing of the check for another year of contributions to the Fairfax Ministerial Alliance’s funds used for distributing some joy and happiness at Thanksgiving and Christmas in the community. At the beginning of almost every Fairfax Kiwanis meeting, following the noon meal, a patriotic group song, pledge to flag, and prayer, the members have the opportunity to share a “brag” or some “baloney” if they put at least one dollar in the blue basket. This money accumulates for a year and is then donated to the Fairfax Ministerial Alliance for their use for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets.
This past year the Kiwanis Club not only enjoyed razing each other while sharing stories, but learned many interesting facts of local history, successes of family, church and school happenings and favorite sporting events.
The generosity of the club members’ contributions to the “baloney and brag” basket totaled $550 and was presented while local ministers joined the Kiwanians for lunch Tuesday, September 27, at Community Hospital-Fairfax. The ministers got in on contributing themselves while taunting different members to throw in a few more dollars to kick off the new year of contributions.
