The annual Chili/Soup Cook-Off at the United Methodist Church in Tarkio, Missouri, is changing things up a bit this year. Instead of the traditional “Cinnamon Roll Throw-Down” held in conjunction with the cook-off, there is going to be a “Pie Bake-Off.” Pie makers in the area are invited to enter their favorite fruit pie or cream pie. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in a Best Fruit Pie category and a Best Cream Pie category.
As always, chili and soup makers are invited to enter their favorite recipes in crock pots, which will remain plugged in during the event. As in the past, first, second and third place prizes will be awarded in a Best Chili category and a Best Soup category.
The event gets underway at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, February 10. It is being held in the fellowship hall of the church located at 201 North 6th Street in Tarkio. Entries should be in place by 5:00 p.m. Winners will be announced around 6:15 p.m.
This is a free event being offered for fun and fellowship. Entries may be made by adults or youth. Everyone is invited to enter, or simply attend to taste the chili, soup, and pies and place votes for favorites. Entries are numbered and voting sheets are available to all those who participate. Pastor Julie Sanders serves the United Methodist churches at Tarkio and Westboro, Missouri.
