To celebrate April 2016 being National Occupational Therapy Month by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), Tiffany Care Centers wants to recognize the hard work and dedication of their cccupational therapists and occupational therapy assistant and the services they provide to our community.
Occupational therapy is the allied health profession that focuses on maximizing a person’s ability to participate in their life independently. TCC Rehab provides a range of occupational therapy services including education and training to improve activities of daily living, memory strengthening, wheelchair fitting and modifications and adaptive equipment and techniques to compensate for physical limitations. They also develop programs for strength and coordination improvement, sports injury rehabilitation and pain management. TCC Rehab also provides home and workplace assessments to maximize functional independence and the safety of their clients.
The most important service an occupational therapist provides is helping people continue to do the things they want and need to do, regardless of their age. Whether you are a student athlete recuperating from a sports injury or an adult who has suffered a stroke or recovering from hip/knee surgery, TCC Rehab occupational therapists are here to get you back to living as independently as possible.
TCC Rehab has two occupational therapists, Shannon Tharp and Jenny Herndon, and one occupational therapy assistant, Robin Davidson. Together they serve the communities of Rock Port, Mound City, Maryville and Oregon. Working together they establish individualized programs and work one-on-one with their clients and residents to ensure they receive the outcomes they deserve.
Shannon Tharp has been part of the TCC team since 2007 but brings 12 years of experience to the team. She spends her time between Pleasant View in Rock Port and Tiffany Heights in Mound City. She has extensive training in neurodevelopmental treatment for people with stroke, brain injury and other neurological conditions. Shannon is trained to complete assessments and treatments for impairments that affect individual’s ability to complete activities of daily living (ADL).
Robin Davidson is the therapy manager at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville and also provides care at Oregon Care Center. She has been part of the TCC team since 2013. Robin pursued her career in Occupational Therapy after learning of the shortage of health care professionals working in the occupational therapy field in our rural areas.
Jenny Herndon works at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville and Oregon Care Center in Oregon. Jenny is the newest Occupational Therapist of the Tiffany team but brings with her 18 years of experience in the occupational therapy field. Jenny was inspired to become an OT by her mother who taught her how to face diversity and adapt following a car accident that left her with a head injury when she was a young girl. She stated that her mother is her inspiration every day to help people regain their independence and return to “living” despite the challenges they face daily.
Staying healthy and injury-free this spring should be your number one goal, and the TCC Occupational Therapy team wants to help you achieve that goal.
