February 24, 1994

• The Tarkio Lions Club sponsored a Valentine’s Dance for Tarkio Elementary students Friday, February 18.

• Springlike temperatures in February soared to as high as 62 degrees in Tarkio Thursday, February 17.

• Winds of up to 50-55 miles per hour raged through the Tarkio area on Friday, February 18. These winds took down lots of tree limbs, not to mention the crow’s nest located at Kyle Field in Tarkio.

February 20, 1969

• Robert Rankin was named “Citizen of the Year” and Mrs. Crystal Clement of Tarkio College was named “Employee of the Year” at the third annual Awards Banquet. Over 180 people of the Tarkio community attended the event at Eppley Lounge at Tarkio College. Crystal Clement is the longtime secretary to the past three presidents of Tarkio College and currently Alumni Director for the college. Robert A. Rankin is involved in the church, with the Boy Scouts in which he holds the honorary Silver Beaver, with the local Rotary Club and as Rotary Governor, in the Livestock Feeders Association, and in many other areas of civic work in addition to being the person who first promoted and was the first chairman of Tarkio Community Betterment.

• One hundred and twenty-five persons heard Capt. J. Wesley Miller, head chaplain of the reception center of Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, present a message to the Boy Scout Troop 88 at the United Presbyterian Church here Sunday night. The occasion marked the observance of the 34th anniversary of the Boy Scout movement in America.
