October 6, 1966
Steve Scamman, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Scamman, Rock Port, is employed as a caseworker with the Holt County Welfare Department. He began his duties on September 1st. Prior to this position he managed a fertilizer plant at Langdon.

October 7, 1976
Atchison County will now have a family counselor once a week and a psychiatrist once a month. The newly constructed Atchison County Health Center at Tarkio will be where you can go to see either one. The board is also currently studying the needs for speech and hearing services and the services to handicapped children.

October 9, 1986
The Tarkio College will reopen the Walnut Inn on a permanent basis beginning October 28th. Both lunch and dinner will be served and guests can choose daily specials or order from a full menu complete with entrees and sandwiches. The Walnut Inn is owned and operated by Tarkio College.

October 10, 1996
Place’s holds “Grand Opening” at the new store in Tarkio. The new store represents over 1 million dollars in inventory and facility. Place’s is unique in today’s economy because it is “Employee owned.” The company, based in Bethany, MO, was incorporated in 1947 and changed to employee ownership in 1991.

October 12, 2006
Daniel Smith, a 1995 graduate of Fairfax High School, has opened his own law office on Main Street in Rock Port. Daniel graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1998, and went into the agricultural business for approximately five years. He then decided to go back to school to become a lawyer. He went to the University of Missouri’s Law school.
