The Fairfax Sorosis group met Monday, October 17, in the basement of the Fairfax Methodist Church. Judy Holtz, president, called the meeting to order and Georgia Gilley proceeded to lead us in singing the Sorosis Song. This was our annual “bring a guest day” and we had three guests: Connie Windhorst, Norma Bradfield, and Peggy Bonar.
We had two members who lost family members on the weekend. Nancy Van Gundy’s husband, Bill, passed away, and Donna Roop lost her sister. We send them our sincerest sympathy.
The meeting was short with no old or new business and no committee reports. We were trying to speed things up so we could be ready for our program speaker, John Brown. He spoke on both the EMT program and the fire department.
Just as things were getting started his pager went off and he had to answer a fire call. He did return later because he still had some important words for us. With the new water mains, county water, etc. Fairfax’s ISO rating has improved from a 9 to a 5. Consequently, anyone in the city of Fairfax should see a decrease in their homeowner’s insurance.
John was also excited about the new storm siren the city is to receive any day to replace the siren that was damaged beyond repair during the storms earlier in the year. Thanks so much John, for all you do for this area and for taking time to be with us.
After John left we enjoyed cookies, punch, and lots of conversation with friends.
