The Fairfax R-3 School District was one of more than 200 Missouri school districts that have earned the state’s “Distinction in Performance” award for their academic achievement and progress during the last school year.
Andrea Carder, a graduate of Fairfax High School, has been hired as the new school nurse at Fairfax R-3.
Dean and Lois Wiley, Fairfax, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on December 30.
The Fairfax FFA hosted its annual barnwarming dance December 16. The Chapter Sweetheart and Favorite Fellow are Shelby Zirfas and Tyson Miller.
Jagger Cade Freemyer, son of Jared and Jamie Freemyer, Fairfax, is Community for Kids’ Star of the Week.

Richard L. Pearce will retire December 31, after nearly 33 years with Community Hospital.
In the “Golden Oldies” – December 19, 1941: Fairfax merchants are planning for a big day next Monday, December 22. At one o’clock in the afternoon turkeys and chickens will be thrown from the tops of buildings on Main Street. The person who catches a fowl can have it. After the turkey throw there will be a free picture show followed by Old Santa.
Hunter’s advertised the following “Week Before Christmas” specials: ham, $1.59 per pound; sweet potatoes, 59¢ per pound; crescent dinner rolls, 99¢ per tube; and Mrs. Smith’s pumpkin pie, $2.99.

December 15, 1966
The Fairfax Forum has received a “Service Award” certificate from the Missouri Community Betterment program. The award is in recognition of services rendered contributing to the success of the Missouri Community Betterment program in Fairfax during the past year.
Both boys’ and girls’ basketball teams kept their conference record clean as they defeated Craig teams on the local hardwoods. The Fairfax girls won 60-26, and the boys defeated the visitors 70-38. This week’s hustle shirts were awarded to Sheldon Davis and Richard Whitford.
A remodeling program is underway in the reception room and business office at Fairfax Community Hospital. Wood paneling is being installed, the ceiling lowered, carpeting and new furniture will complete the new look.

Editor’s Note: If you were a fan of the TV show “WKRP In Cincinnati,” the entry from the “Golden Oldies” of December 9, 1941, surely brought a smile to your face, if not a full-blown belly laugh. In an episode that aired in November 1978, Arthur Carlson took charge of a promotional event for the radio station. Les Nessman reported on the event, giving a minute-to-minute update reminiscent of the Hindenburg disaster as turkeys were dropped from a helicopter. When Mr. Carlson returned to the station, the only words he could muster were, “As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.” Does anyone remember the Fairfax event?
