March 24, 1944

• Dr. O.P. Templeton is short approximately $170 and a billfold which was taken from a rear room of his drug store Thursday of last week. The doctor kept what money he did not need in his cash register in the billfold and kept it in a drawer in a room to the rear of his prescription department, where he spent much of his time. While he was out of the room a short time Thursday evening, the billfold and money disappeared and have not been located.

• Dr. H.C. Bauman and Miss Marguerite McConnell are to exchange business locations and the stock of ladies’ apparel belonging to Miss McConnell has been moved from its location this week, allowing carpenters to make the needed changes in the building before the physician’s office is moved. The change will provide Dr. Bauman with more room and Miss McConnell with a building more suited to the needs of her dress shop.

March 20, 1969

• In an open meeting of the local Masonic Lodge Tuesday evening, William M. Sly was presented with a pin denoting his 50-year association with the order.

• Performing at the State Music Festival at NWMSC at Maryville Saturday, the Fairfax band received a I rating and the concert choir was given a II. Competing in the district contest for small groups and solos, Thursday and Friday the Fairfax music department walked away with six I ratings and nine II out of 20 entries.

• Beginning November 1, telephone customers in Missouri will change the way they dial long distance calls within their area code. Currently customers dialing long distance just dial 1 before the seven digit number. Beginning November 1, it will be necessary for customers to dial the area code as well. The new dialing procedure is required because telephone companies everywhere are running out of phone numbers and the new dialing plan will make more numbers available.

• On Saturday, March 19, the girls in FHA participated in a Fashion Show. The theme for this show was “Blast From The Past.” Bringing back past fashions, the members modeled from Brass Buckle, Lerner, and Maurices.
