All the making of a huge omelet were at hand Monday evening when a driver for Wilson & Co. tried to run his truck into the driveway at the Deatz produce house on South Main Street and some 28 cases of eggs were knocked off the truck. The driver had piled several empty egg cases on top of the loaded cases and did not realize that the doorway into the driveway was too low to allow the truck to enter. The empty cases shoved the 28 filled cases off the truck and five of them were smashed to bits, with a resultant smear of eggs over the sidewalk. The driver was so disgusted he didn’t bother to inspect the contents of the other cases laying on the ground, but piled them back onto the truck and drove away. George Deatz said the result was a badly smeared entrance to his poultry and cream station.

Atchison County’s Sweet Adeline chapter gave a crowd pleasing performance for a capacity audience Friday night at the R-II school building in Rock Port. The 30 voice choir along with a number of other acts gave a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment for more than 800 people.

A long ribbon of heavy wire carrying 345,000 volts of electricity will cut across Atchison County this summer along a path as indicated by the accompanying map. St. Joseph Light & Power Company and Iowa Power & Light Company, Des Moines, have received permission from the judges of the county court of Atchison County to use county easements and right of ways in the construction. The $8.5 million transmission line will connect the 800,000 kilowatt atomic energy plant at Brownville with power users in Iowa. The line through Missouri will cost about $1.2 million.

Mick Lewis, Atchison County Farm Bureau insurance agent, was named top producer in crop hail commissions by the Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance Companies. Mike Weddle, CHC, Regional Director of Agencies for Farm Bureau Insurance Companies, presented Lewis a plaque during the Company’s All Star Sales Conference. Lewis compete for the honor with more than 200 professional agents throughout the state.

After placing first in the school poster contest “Don’t Let Your Smile Become Extinct,” Adam Cook advanced to District competition in St. Joseph, where he placed third. He received a check for $25 from the Dental Association.
