The Holt County Historical Society (HCHS) Genealogy and Research Center, at 612 State Street, in Mound City Missouri, will soon be located in the Depot Museum located on South State Street. The spring opening date will be delayed for a short time but packing, moving, and organization has begun. The Center is filled with Holt County history – thousands of  original obituary copies, family files, photographs, and cemetery records, along with school, military, towns, and church histories.

The new location will provide more research space and plenty of parking. Holt County artifacts and displays will be featured along with the research area. A donation from the Mound City Kiwanis Club for the purchase an air conditioner along with installation assistance offered from the Mound City Lions Club will be appreciated in the summer.  Installation will begin soon.

The Society owns the Depot Museum and the historical building is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Mound City Museum Association donated the land, artifacts, building, and all of the contents to the Holt County Missouri Historical Society in November 2016.

The phone number will be the same, 660-442-5949 (leave a message), and the mailing address is Holt County Historical Society at P.O. Box 55, Mound City MO 64470. The e-mail address is hchs1972@gmail.com.

The Nodaway Valley Bank is providing a home, rent free, for the Genealogy and Research Center following the flood of 2011.  A new opening date will be announced soon.
