Second Harvest Community Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers is preparing for the Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. This year, the drive will take place on Saturday, May 11.
Residents will receive yellow sacks. Participating is easy; all someone has to do is fill their yellow bag with of non-perishable food items, and leave it by their mailbox. Your letter carrier will come by, pick it up and make sure it’s delivered to a local Partner Agency. Food donated within their community stays in their community to feed food insecure individuals.
Stamp Out Hunger is the largest, single-day food drive in the United States. Within Second Harvest’s network, over 52,000 pounds of food was collected last year.
Walmart has launched this year’s ‘Fight Hunger Spark Change’ campaign to assist with the fight to end hunger. This campaign will run until May 20, 2019.
Your community can assist by:
1) Product Purchase: Each participating item purchased at Walmart or Sam’s Club will unlock a donation equivalent to one meal secured by Feeding America® on behalf of local member food banks from each supplier. Donations will be localized based on where each item is sold.
2) Register Giving: Customers can donate to their local Feeding America member food bank at the registers of Walmart and Sam’s Club stores. Donations of $1, $2, $5 or another amount will be accepted. There is no limit to what can be raised at the register, and 100% of funds will be directed to local member food banks. Funds will be localized based on where the customer donation was made.
