The 34th annual “Accent on Academics” Academic Awards Banquet was held Monday, April 22, 2019, at Fairfax R-3. K-12 Principal Dustin Barnes welcomed all in attendance before everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner. Mr. Barnes recognized the contributors and then musical presentations were made by students: vocal solo – Gena Mitchell with accompaniment by Suzanne Southard; and girls’ vocal ensemble – Katy Baker, Morgan O’Riley, Gena Mitchell, Jaelynn Hill, McKenzie Frohn, Shanna Gilpin, and Milana Shcherbakova, accompanied by Suzanne Southard. Atchison County Deputy Devon Sons was the guest speaker.
Mr. Barnes and Counselor Marisa Hedlund presented awards to: first year – Kaden Cooper, Nicholas Hardisty, Ian Hedlund, Cole Miller, Gena Mitchell, and Milana Shcherbakova; second year – Bennett Bowling, Wyatt Burke, Kilea Cooper, McKenzie Frohn, Jaycee Graves, Jesse Graves, and Jaelynn Hill; and third year – Katy Baker, Tyler Brown, Zach Garrison, Shanna Gilpin, Max Hopkins, Shelbey Morris, and Kinley Thornhill.
