A one-vehicle accident sent one driver to the hospital on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. A 1989 Mack Superliner tractor-trailer, driven by Walter R. Nunez, 49, of Rosemount, Minnesota, was driving northbound on Hwy. 59 five miles north of Tarkio when the truck traveled across the centerline at 4:54 p.m. It continued off the west side of the roadway, overturned onto the driver’s side and struck a cluster of trees. The vehicle came to rest on its side facing north.

Nunez, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was transported by an Atchison-Holt ambulance to Community Hospital-Fairfax in Fairfax, Missouri.

The Mack tractor-trailer received moderate damage and was towed by Benefiel Tow of Hamburg, Iowa.

The accident was investigated by Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. S.M. Hux, who was assisted by the Atchison County Sheriff’s Department, Tarkio Police Department, Westboro Fire Department, CVO D.D. Vette, and CVI D.S. Melvin.
