The Rock Port Park Board met Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Rock Port City Hall. Members present were: Shauna Farmer, Lisa Farmer, Gregg Young, Tisha Jackson, Tawni Ellis, Sheena Roup, Jill Lager, Katey Kroeger and Devon Sons. Also present were Alderman Todd Stevens, City Police Officer Jon Chandler and Chief of Police Shannon Sherwood.

Lisa Farmer called the meeting to order, and board members voted to approve the meeting agenda.

Chief Sherwood and Officer Chandler were present to discuss any issues or questions the Park Board might have. The Park Board asked that the gates at the City Park be locked when the City Park was closed from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. A discussion was held and Alderman Stevens asked the City Police Department to take on this task. Any dates that didn’t work for the officers would be ironed out as needed. It was also discussed whether the City Park gates should be closed from December 1 to March 1, unless there was a public need to be in the south end of the park.

The pool season is running smoothly. A sign will be posted next year regarding the lifeguards’ rights to be able to remove floats and toys from the pool if they are creating an unsafe environment. Hopefully JEO will be able to schedule their visit to review the pool soon.

Board members voted to approve the January 14, 2019, meeting minutes.

The January and February financials were also approved.

There were eight applications for lifeguards for the 2019 season. Board members voted to hire all guards, pending the passing of their certification. Payroll was tabled until the April meeting.

The parking lot at the pool will need a great amount of attention. More pool preparation will be discussed at the April meeting. Discussion of hiring ATCO or an outside source for the pool was discussed.

Discussion was held about not opening the park until 9:00 a.m. Board members voted to change the city park hours from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and to close the park from December 1 to March 1 each season.

Katey gave an update on the JEO pool study. There is a plan to start a committee in July.

Park Update: We need basketball nets. The nitrogen application needs to be prepared. Tish will contact Mo Valley since it is their turn in the rotation of services. Alderman Stevens suggested getting bids for park mowing for the 2019 season since the city is short on workers.
