Our meeting was held at hostess Martha’s Bed and Breakfast. Our president, Debbie, was delayed so Pam Cooper called the meeting to order. Roll call was: What I love about Spring. Many of us loved the sunshine and all of us loved the end of this winter and signs of new life.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Pam made a motion to approve the minutes and Barb seconded it. All approved.

The treasurer’s report was given and approved. The corresponding secretary read an invitation from Rock Port Sorosis to attend their meeting on April 17. Their special guests were Rob and Pat Denison from Ankeny, Iowa. They were to give a program on Kosovo, Russia.

New Business: The Nominating Committee made a motion to approve Georgia Gilley to fill the office of recording secretary for one year. The motion was approved by acclamation. Critic Report from Judy was: “Many people walk in and out of your life but true friends leave footprints in your heart” – Eleanor Roosevelt.

The business meeting was adjourned and Georgia Gilley presented a program on the beginning of Sorosis. Our founder, whose pen name was Jenny June (real name Jane Cunningham), was a go-getter in the era where women had few privileges. She was born in England, the daughter of a Unitarian minister. The family moved to America early in Jennie June’s life. We were entertained with stories of how she overcame obstacles and achieved numerous victories. She organized and started Sorosis and pushed for education for women. She established classes to teach women to read and write. We today are her benefactors. Many of our privileges are due to Jennie June and others like her.

Georgia gave us all a copy of the 100th Anniversary of Sorosis Holiday Recipes. Can’t wait to try some of them. These Sorosis ladies are wonderful cooks.

Debbie thanked Georgia for her program. The Bon Mot and Collect were read and the meeting was adjourned. We then enjoyed delicious refreshments by Martha and conversation with friends.
