The Tarkio R-I Board of Education met Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Tarkio High School. Board members in attendance were: Jeff Meyer, Jamie Barnett, Garrett Wood, Ann Schlue-ter, Chris Yates, Steve Klute, and Sam Hannah. Others in attendance were: Tarkio R-I Superintendent Karma Coleman, board secretary Lanette Hogue, Tarkio High School Principal Carrie Livengood, Tarkio Elementary Principal/Tarkio Special Educatiaon Director Kari Taylor, Markie Sundermann, Shannon Bruns, Dallas Prather, Jennifer Peregrine, Deyton Thomson, Liz Klute, and Rachel Meyer.

The consent agenda was approved, as well as district obligations.

Liz Klute was in attendance on behalf of the EA Booster Club to ask if the board would be willing to let them paint a wolf head and/or Home of the Wolves on the walls of the TAC. This was tabled until further information is gathered regarding hanging conference banners, championship banners and record boards.

Board members voted to approve Mr. Lambertsen to take students to National FFA Convention in October.

CTA Reports – Mrs. Wood is doing several fun activities in P.E. The second grade has started an after school group called Wise Wolves. Tribal Brews is up and running in the mornings in the high school lobby. The fourth grade has been studying energy and motion in science, and the focus room is up and going.

Rachel presented on the happenings of the TAC. There have been volleyball games, elementary volleyball practices, and the EA junior high cheerleaders have held practices as well. Dance and gymnastic classes have started.

Mrs. Taylor reported that the elementary has 174 students enrolled preschool-fifth grade. The August attendance rate is 97%. Kids’ Korner hosted Grandparents Day September 6, 2019. They held their first Golden Ticket ceremony for PBIS. Dyslexia screenings are finished and letters will be going out to the parents. All of the staff attended the 275 Conference PD Day in Maryville. They are trying to revive the Tribe Parent Group and hosted the first meeting. The elementary has implemented Buddy Rooms two Wednesdays a month for the teachers’ vertical team meeting time.

Special Education Director Taylor reported the Tribal Brews Coffee Shop is up and running. All of the Special Education teachers went to CPI training. Mr. Thomson and Mrs. Sundermann attended Map A Training.

High School Principal Carrie Livengood reported there are 172 children enrolled sixth-12th grades. August attendance was 97.22%. Mrs. Livengood has started formal observations. PLC collaboration time is being used to focus on classroom strategies and student concerns. The first testing window for NWEA opened September 17, 2019.

Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Livengood are going to begin meeting with students to determine paths for the students, which goes hand-in-hand with the ICAP.

Mrs. Coleman gave a financial report. She went over the amortization schedule for the TAC lease payment schedule. We were chosen to host district volleyball. Tarkio College will begin classes January 6, 2020. They will host a grand opening in March. Mrs. Coleman has started rough draft of a facilities plan for each building. Due to legislation, next year the earliest we can begin school will be August 24, 2020. Mrs. Coleman went over the new board training requirements. After working with ATHCO, Bill has the scoreboard working at the football field and should make it through the season. Mrs. Coleman will start looking into new scoreboards for next year.

Board members voted to approve the quote for up to $21,000 from Midwest Data Center for the new camera system.

Board members voted to approve the contract with ACES for the 2019-2020 school year.

Board members voted 6-0-1 to approve Cindy Sons as a substitute. They also voted 7-0 to approve Bailee Plummer and Tasha Gronniger as substitutes.

Board members voted to approve the Special Ed Compliance Plan as presented, and also voted to renew a CD for seven months at 2%.

Board members voted to sign the Final Delivery and Acceptance Certificate for CTS for the TAC.

Mrs. Coleman is going to look into a new combined pep song for EA.

Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Livengood, and Rachel Meyer are going to do some measuring to see where to hang the championship banners, conference banners and record boards at the TAC.

Board members voted to approve the following policies: 0370 – Board Training; 1210 – Calendar Requirements; 1425 – School Volunteers; 1430 – Visitors to School; 2200 – Admission and Withdrawal; 2230 – Admission of Non-Traditional Students; 2710 – Reporting Student Abuse; 2742 – Sexual Abuse Awareness Training; 3470 – Average Daily Attendance/Early Childhood Program; 4120 – Employment Procedures; 4411 – Professional Development Program; 4540 – Group Insurance Benefits; 7210 – Construction Contracts, Bidding and Awards; and 2866 – Bed Bug procedures. The motion carried 7-0.

Moving the January board meeting was discussed. It was decided to leave it on the scheduled date.

Board members voted to set the graduation time as 1:30 p.m. on May 10, 2020.

There was discussion on the EA Wolves Co-op. The paperwork is due to MSHSAA this year. Both the Tarkio Board and Fairfax Board were to have discussions this month to make sure any concerns were addressed prior to signing the agreement. Some concerns were shared and Tarkio’s board decided they would like two of their board members to meet with two of the Fairfax board members to discuss concerns.

Board members voted to approve Gerry and Starla’s bus routes for the 2019-2020 school year.

Mrs. Coleman will present the budget amendments at the October Board of Education meeting.

The meeting moved into closed session. The meeting came out of closed session and adjourned.
