The Southwest Livingston Wildcats traveled to Rock Port on Friday night, October 11. It was the coldest night for football this season as temperatures dropped to 34 degrees. The Blue Jays struggled with getting things going with both offense and defense as the Wildcats half-timed the Jays, 62-12.

The Wildcats kicked an onside kick to start the game which was recovered by Micah Makings. With the ball on their own 36 yard line, the Jays started with a fumble  which was recovered by quarterback Alex Burke. Three plays later, the Jays would turn the ball over on downs.

Getting the ball on their own 38 yard line the Wildcats moved the ball down the field in seven plays  for the first points on the board. The two-point conversion was good making the score 0-8. With another onside kick attempt the Jays would have a short field, but there was another fumble between Burke and the center Cayden Criger which resulted in a turnover.

Southwest took full advantage of the turnover and four plays later found the end zone. Two-point conversion was good, making the score 0-16 Southwest.

On the following kick-off, the ball scooted downfield and before the Blue Jays could get on the ball the Wildcats recovered the ball on the  Rock Port 11 yard line. Four plays and a penalty later, the Wildcats put another 6 points on the board. The two-point conversion was no good, making the score 0-22.

The Blue Jays would have good field position with the ball on the Wildcats’ 38 yard line to start the next drive. Once again, the offense could not get any movement with the ball and turned it over on downs.

The Wildcats then went to the air, moving the ball to the five yard line in two plays before ending the first quarter.

The first play of the second quarter Southwest’s quarterback Mack Anderson would punch it in for six more points. The two-point conversion was good, making the score 0-30 Southwest.

One of the only highlights for the Jays came on the next kick-off when Joey Herron would take it from the 15 yard line back for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, making the score 6-30 Southwest.

The Wildcats would return the ball to the 38 yard line on the following kick-off.

Southwest Livingston moved the ball down the field to the 18 yard line before quarterback Mack Anderson would score again on a quarterback keeper.  The two-point conversion was no good, making the score 6-36.

Followed by a botched on-side kick, the Blue Jays managed to put a drive together with a long run by running back Joey Herron moving the ball to the 11 yard line. Two plays later fullback Colten Stevens would take Burke’s hand-off up the middle for six points. The two-point conversion was no good making the score 12-36.

The Jays tried an onside kick which gave the Wildcats the ball on their own 38 yard line. Two plays later SW quarterback Mack Anderson would take it 35 yards for a touchdown. With the two-point conversion the score was now 12-44 SW.

With another line drive kick Micah Makings would return the ball to the 36 yard line. On the next play Southwest would get hit with two penalties giving the Jays the ball on the Wildcats’ 17 yard line, but the Blue Jay offense was unable to get anything going turning the ball over on downs.

Five plays later, Anderson would punch it in for another touchdown. The two-point conversion was no good, making the score 12-50 SW with 4 minutes left in the first half.

With another return to midfield,  the Blue Jay offense couldn’t find an answer, turning the ball over on downs.

Three plays in, Anderson would put  six more points on the board making the score 12-56 with 33 seconds left in the first half.

Rock Port would try to go to the air, but with two bad snaps and pressure, Burke was not able to find a receiver ,forcing the Jays to punt for the first time on the night.

With the ball on the nine yard line and 12 seconds on the clock Southwest’s quarterback Mack Anderson would keep the ball and run it back 71 yards for the game-ending touchdown making the final score 12-62.

The Blue Jays will play South Holt/Nodaway-Holt this Friday in Graham, Missouri.
