Wolves seeded first in District competition, have bye and home-field advantage

The East Atchison Wolves won the 275 Conference football championship Friday, October 25, defeating Platte Valley and finishing the season with a 9-0 record. The East Atchison Wolves Varsity Football Team played their final, regular season game Friday, October 25, 2019, in Barnard, Missouri. With the 48-0 victory over Platte Valley, East Atchison claimed the 275 Conference Championship and finished the regular season with a 9-0 record.
The Wolves won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball to begin the game. Briacin Bywater put the first points on the board scoring from 14 yards out and scoring the two-point conversion. With 11:12 left in the first quarter, the score was EA 8, PV 0.
Gus Hurst put an end to Platte Valley’s first offensive possession with an interception, giving the Wolves a first and 10 from the EA 38 yard line. Five plays later, Ian Hedlund caught a pass from Jake McEnaney, covering the last three yards. McEnaney added the two-point conversion to make the score EA 16, PV 0, with 8:58 left in the first quarter.
Forcing a punt, the Wolves’ defense stood strong on the following Platte Valley drive. Starting on their own 10 yard line, the Wolves moved the ball in four plays to score again. Hedlund again hauled in a pass from McEnaney for a 36 yard score. Bywater converted the two-point conversion to make the score, with 3:04 left in the first quarter, EA 24, PV 0.
Again the defense of the Wolves held the Platte Valley offense in check. After the punt, EA had a first and 10 from the PV 39 yard line. Three plays later, McEnaney found the end zone on a 5 yard run. With 10:42 left in the second quarter, the score was EA 32, PV 0. Kaylin Merriweather caught the two-point conversion from McEnaney.
PV offense was not able to convert a first down on the following drive, punting the ball back to the EA offense on the EA 22 yard line. Making a big hole, the Wolves opened up a 37 yard lane for Bywater to score the next touchdown. McEnaney tossed Hedlund the ball to convert the two-point conversion. With 7:31 left in the second quarter, the score was now EA 40, PV 0.
The final score of the evening was a run by McEnaney from 28 yards out. The two-point conversion was good to make the final score EA 48, PV 0.
With their outstanding, undefeated record, the Wolves are seeded first in District 4 competition with a bye the first week of play and home-field advantage the next. They will play the winner of the South-Holt/Nodaway-Holt vs. DeKalb November 1 game on Friday, November 8, in Tarkio at 7:00 p.m.
