The first quarter of the 2019-20 school year is in the books! Our Parent-Teacher Conferences were held on October 17. A special thank you to parents and guardians for taking the time to stop by the school for conferences. We had 195/198 conferences attended . . . simply amazing teacher outreach and family support!

Our journey on the Energy Bus continues! As adults, when we hop into a vehicle for a road trip we generally have an end destination in mind and an idea of how to get there (with the help of Google maps at times). Last month students learned to “Be the Driver” of their bus. Now that our students are behind the wheel of their bus and taking full responsibility for their actions and decisions, they need to have a plan for where they want to take their bus. October’s focus is on “Creating a Positive Vision.” This means setting goals and having a plan of action to reach those goals. Our next Energy Bus Assembly is November 4 at 2:15 p.m. Anyone can attend and be a part of the positive energy as we celebrate students who are “Creating a Positive Vision.” We will also introduce next month’s Energy Bus Principle – “Drive with Purpose.”

We are entering our fourth year as a Project Lead the Way School (PLTW). PLTW is a program that focuses on problem-based activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We host STEM Showcases each quarter for students to display their projects, discuss their successes and failures, and reflect on what they would do differently next time. Our 13th STEM Showcase was October 24. Attendance and participation for the showcase events continues to be strong. Our school’s story with PLTW will be highlighted in the upcoming PLTW Summit Conference in Kansas City in mid-November.

A shout-out to our staff and students for continued academic excellence in reading, math, and science on our annual state assessments. Third through sixth grade students take the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) tests each year in April. Students scoring at the Proficient or Advanced levels were: English Language Arts, 73% (state average 47.8%); Math, 66.7% (state average 43.9%); and Science, 79.1% (state average to be released). It’s a team effort of great students, teachers, and families!
