Last week’s Mail carried a large advertisement for the Vogel & Son Popcorn Co. of Hamburg, which buys, contracts and processes popcorn. From the Hamburg Reporter it is learned that this concern has erected a storage and processing building in Hamburg which is 130 feet long, 36 feet wide and 12 feet high. It has a capacity of 2,100,00 pounds of corn. Here the company dries popcorn, cleans and sacks it in 100-pound bags for shipment in carload lots. Vogel & Co. contracted 1,500 acres of popcorn last spring, but due to high water and heavy rains, this was reduced to about 900 acres, which it is estimated should produce 35,000 bushels. The company is composed of Alex Vogel and his son, Arthur Vogel, who attended Rock Port High School and graduated with the class of 1939.
