December 15, 1944
• Ed Mayes and his brother, Clyde Mayes of Douglas, Nebraska, left Wednesday for Evansville, Indiana, where they will visit with a brother, Emerson Mayes, and from there they will go to Cincinnati, Ohio, to visit a sister, Mrs. P.D. Wallace. Ed Mayes has not seen his brother in Evansville for 40 years and his sister for 28 years, so is anticipating an enjoyable reunion.
• A new steam locomotive, capable of drawing 125 loaded freight cars of speeds greater than 50 miles an hour, is under construction for the Pennsylvania Railroad company. The engine has been designed to develop more power in its working range, at speeds more than 20 miles an hour, than any steam locomotive previously built, according to the railroad company.
December 18, 1969
• The Fairfax Community Garden Club, assisted by the Junior Community Betterment group, helped brighten the holiday season for hospital patients by providing and trimming a Christmas tree for the courtyard area at the Fairfax Community Hospital. The Garden Club bought and erected the tree which was trimmed by the youth group. It is visible from all patient rooms.
• Mr. and Mrs. John Atkins were very much surprised Sunday when several family and friends arrived with well-filled baskets of food to help them celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, which was December 15.
December 15, 1994
• Over the Backfence by Nancy Gaines: “I’m working on my wish list. I am wishing for TV reception either via cable or satellite at the hospital in Fairfax.”
• On Monday, December 5, 20 of the FHA and FFA members met at the home ec building and then headed out to go caroling. Afterwards, they came back to the building for hot chocolate and donuts.
