• About 75 persons attended the American Legion and Auxiliary Christmas turkey dinner which was held at the school building on Monday evening.
• Charles Moore has purchased the residence property of Mrs. Blanche Bastien, formerly owned by L.E. Baker, which is located just east of the school building, and has sold his property in the south part of town to Frank Burdick. Price paid for the Bastien property was $4,000 and for the Moore property was $2,500.
• Cpl. Gordon Glanville, former Fairfax boy, but of late years of Houston, Texas, from where he entered the service, was one of the seven Houston men awarded the Combat Infantry badge for combat against the Japs on Bougainville. Gordon was a member of an infantry regiment that smashed back four attacks on Hill 129. He is a regimental headquarters clerk.
December 25, 1969
• Out-of-town judges last week selected six homes for speicial honors in the Christmas home decorating contest sponsored by Fairfax Community Betterment. First place winners included: the John Wells home, the Winzel Fair home, the Don Maris home, the Tom Miller home, and the Wally Kent home.
• The countryside was blanketed in snow cover Monday night, bringing delight to the children and groans from the elders, but assuring all that a traditional white Christmas will be celebrated Thursday.
• At Hunter’s Hy-Klas Food Store in Fairfax, there were “Bargains in Every Bag,” including jumbo Cokes, 16-ounce, 8-pack carton for 59¢ plus bottle deposit; Hy-Klas tea rolls for 25¢ per package; 10 pound bag of White Satin sugar for 89¢; Hy-Klas ice cream, 1/2 gallon for 49¢; a crisp head of lettuce for 19¢; Hy-Klas bacon, 2 pounds for $1.35; and much more!

• Eight new IBM compatible computers with software were received by the Fairfax R-3 Business Department. The computers were assembled by Cybermax in California to the exact specifications requested by Toni Perdew, business teacher, and Roger Martin, who advises the district regularly on computer matters.
• Christmas lighting winners were: Grand prize – Gene Carder home, Harry Combs, Lionel Brown, Charles Golden, Rose Adamson, and Doug Miller.
• Letters to Santa: “Dear Santa, I would like for you to bring me a Red Dragon Thunder Zord and Dragon Zord for Christmas. Thank you, Devon Sons”; “Dear Santa, I would like for you to bring me Sega and Lion King for Christmas. I will leave you some milk and cookies. Thank you. Love, Alyssa Wiley”; “Dear Santa, I would like for you to bring me a Gleaner combine and a full-size piano keyboard for Christmas. I will leave some milk and cookies. Love, Treyvor”; and “Dear Santa, I would like for you to bring me a stereo for Christmas. I will leave you some milk and cookies. I will leave some carrots for your reindeer. Thank you. Love, Jessica Wiley.” All of them also said, “P.S. Please remember my family.”
