January 5, 1945

• A loss of approximately $750 was estimated by the Abell Produce Company last Friday when discovery was made of a robbery of furs including mink, muskrat, and fox pelts. The robbers made off in their haul with the choicest furs, discarding those pelts not in their liking. They chose 128 muskrats, 18 mink, and six foxes, but must have been hurried upon leaving for they left one sack that they had filled.

• Keith Hurst purchased the residence property at 901 Walnut from George Wilkinson of Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs. Hurst will move there when the current residents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Abell, find a suitable residence.

• Sale of the Grimm Grocery company was announced this week by E.S. Grimm. It was purchased by Russell McNulty, who has been with the store for 15 years and has been manager the past several years. The new firm will be known as McNulty’s Grocery.

January 8, 1970

• New second semester courses in Tarkio High School begin January 12. Offered for the first time in several years will be economics, an elective primarily for seniors. Home economic courses in clothing and personal culture follow first semester courses of foods and family relations. In vocational agriculture, a second semester class in agriculture power replaces a first semester course in agriculture construction.

• A group of about 30 political science and business and economics students at Tarkio College will leave campus on January 12 for Washington, D.C., on a term field study trip. Two courses will consist of one week of lectures on campus, two weeks in Washington, and a final week on campus with each student determining a specific research topic or project and will work though the offices of his home senator and representative as well as the appropriate governmental agencies.

• “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and “Winning” were playing at The Tarkio Theatre.

January 5, 1995

• Josh Egbert and Brian Vette have recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Egbert and Vette are members of Troop 88 in Tarkio, sponsored by the Tarkio Rotary Club. Josh’s Eagle project was painting the hallways at Tarkio High School. Brian’s Eagle project was cleaning the livestock barn at the city park and preparing the barn for the arrival of the Reminisce horse team.

• Dean Hicks, Vocational Agriculture Instructor at Tarkio High School, is offering an adult education class entitled “Futures Marketing.” The class will cover the following topics: Marketing Basics, Fundamental Analysis, Technical Analysis, Using Futures, Options Terms, Options Strategies, Marketing Math, and Marketing How-To.
