The City of Fairfax Board of Aldermen met January 15, 2020. The meeting was called to order by Ryan Kingery, mayor, at 7:35 p.m. Also in attendance were: Kristi Duering, Michael Oswald, and Beth Graves, aldermen; Lori Helfers, City Clerk; John Brown, Water Superintendent; and Danny Kemerling, Treasurer.    

The aldermen voted to approve the tentative agenda.

Danny Kemerling talked with the council about the non-election vote and how it would work and the cost savings to the city. Danny answered questions that the council had.

The aldermen approved the regular minutes of December 18, 2019, and accounts payable.

Danny looked over the grant material available for sidewalks by MoDOT. The council will look into other ways of possibly funding sidewalk improvements.

Bill #2020-11 titled: An ordinance setting an election on April 7th, 2020 for the qualified voters of the city of Fairfax, Missouri, to decide whether to forego annual elections for six years if the number of candidates filing equal the number of seats up for election in accordance with section 115.124 RSMo. was read by title by Ryan Kingery.

The aldermen voted unanimously to approve Bill #2020-11, which was then assigned Resolution #2020-1558.

Bill #2020-12 titled: An Ordinance imposing a general sales tax in Fairfax, Missouri, and providing for such ordinance to be submitted to the qualified voters of the city, was read by title by Ryan Kingery. The aldermen voted unanimously to approve Bill #2020-12, which was then assigned Resolution #2020-1559.

Staff Reports:

Danny Kemerling presented his Treasurer report showing that all accounts are in balance.

Lori Helfers presented the council with the scoring that was received from Jerri Dearmont, Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments director, on the CDBG street grant that was applied for this past spring. Lori will call Jerri to find out more information on the scoring.

John Brown gave a report on current sewer and street issues that they are currently working on.

John went over the findings of the water inspection that was held December 16, 2019.

The next meeting is February 19, 2020, at 6:30 p.m.
