A wedding of interest to the many friends of the contracting parties is that of Miss Evelyn Marie Cooper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie J. Cooper, and Kenneth Bressler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bressler. The single ring ceremony was performed Monday, January 22, by Rev. Kurstner at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hiawatha, Kansas. Both parties to the wedding, born and reared in this community, have a circle of friends and well-wishers who extend congratulations. The bride had recently taken a position at the Bank of Atchison County.

The number of working wives is on the increase in Atchison County. No less than 30.6 percent of the married women in the local area leave their homes each day and head for their outside jobs in offices, stores, factories, schools, hospitals and the like. In 1960, the figures show, only 23.2 percent did so. One thing that has made it possible is the time-saving appliances and the prepared foods that are available. They permit her to get her housework done with dispatch.
The Sheriff’s office received a call January 25 that the Langdon grocery store had been burglarized during the night. Investigation revealed that someone had entered through a rear window by prying it open with a blunt instrument. Taken were assorted cigarettes, snack items, flour, three bottles of sun tan lotion, and one carton size “C” flashlight batteries.

Dan Stanton and Paul Zimmerman of Midwest Food Services, L.L.C., announced their plans for a Hardee’s restaurant to be built at the I-29 interchange. Dan’s brother Bob, also a partner, will be moving back to Rock Port and will be involved in the management of the franchise. The franchise will employ roughly 45 employees.
Wrestling homecoming was held January 13. Brady Owen crowned this year’s queen, Angela Deatz. Ryan Cook was crowned by Tami Laflin, last year’s queen.
