The Missouri State Highway Patrol arrested two men following a high-speed chase in Atchison County February 26, 2020. A trooper attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding near the 92 mile-marker on Interstate 29 when the vehicle failed to yield. A pursuit began. The vehicle took exit 92, turned onto Hwy. 59, and then got back onto northbound I-29. At the 107 mile-marker, the vehicle exited the interstate and headed westbound on Hwy. 111 and then traveled onto Route E, where the trooper terminated the pursuit due to road conditions. At 0800 hours, the trooper located the suspect’s vehicle again at Hwy. 111 and reinstated the pursuit, which ended up back on I-29 southbound. A tire deflation device was deployed at the 102 mile-marker and the suspect’s vehicle lost a tire and entered the median, coming to a stop.
Joshua D. Brunson, 31, of Kansas City, Kansas, was arrested for Resisting Arrest/Detention/Stop By Fleeing – Creating A Substantial Risk of Serious Injury/Death To Any Person; Failure To Yield To Emergency Vehicle Sounding Siren And Displaying Red/Blue Light; Exceeding Posted Speed Limit (Exceeded By 26 Mph Or More); Failure To Signal/Gave Improper Signal When Stopping/Turning Left Or Right; Failure To Drive On Right Half Of Roadway When Roadway Was Of Sufficient Width; Failure To Drive Within Right Lane Of Hwy. With 2 Or More Lanes In Same Direction; Failure To Stop For Stop Sign At Stop Line/Before Crosswalk/Point Nearest Intersection; Operate Vehicle On Hwy. Without A Valid License – 1st Offense; and Operate Motor Vehicle Owned By Another Knowing Owner Of Vehicle Has Not Maintained Financial Responsibility.
A passenger, Jasper R. Epps, 58, of Kansas City, Kansas, was arrested on a felony warrant for assault. The two men were taken to the Atchison County Jail.
