The Peg-a-Way club met at the home of Mrs. Fred Erdman on Thursday, February 8, with eight members and one visitor present, the latter becoming a member of the club. The club sang “American” and gave the pledge to the flag, followed by reading of the minutes by Mrs. Lewis Hunter. Roll call was answered by giving the birthdays of famous Americans. It was decided to give $3.00 to the March of Dimes.

Miss Strobel gave an interesting talk on how to prepare for the boys returning home from military service. This was followed by a valentine party at which several received nice gifts. Then names were drawn for our new Valentine Sisters.

March 12, 1970

One of the first signs of Spring in Rock Port was Monday, March 9, when the first dirt was removed in preparation for the construction of the new 14 elementary classroom structure to be built adjacent to the present Rock Port R-2 school building.

The October 14 vote passed the $495,000 bond issue and the contract was let to Don Bron Construction Company, Kansas City for a low bid of $439,439.

Miss Donna Leigh Wolf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wolf, Rock Port, became the bride of Kenneth Wayne Lucas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Lucas, Dothan, Alabama, in a candlelight ceremony at the Linden Christian Church at 5:30 p.m., February 18.

March 9, 1995

The Atchison County Extension Council held its annual re-organizational meeting in Rock Port on March 2. The meeting, held at the Extension Center, started with a noon luncheon hosted by the Atchison County Extension Staff. Following the luncheon, five members who have completed their council terms were honored. They were: Mike Murphy, Barry Amthor, Scott Deatz, Garry Garst and Dean Bolton.

Paramount Theater in Rock Port was showing The Quick and The Dead. The Pioneer Theater was showing Outbreak, Brady Bunch Movie, and Man of The House. The Colonial Theater was showing Far From Home.
