Peru State women’s golf coach Sue Owen recently announced the signing of Gretchen Tharp from North Central Missouri College (NCMC) in Trenton, Missouri.

Tharp went to Rock Port R-II High School in Rock Port, Missouri. She is the daughter of Brian and Shannon Tharp. Gretchen will major in liberal arts while attending Peru State.

During her golfing career she played four years of high school golf for Rock Port and then went on to play two years of golf with the Pirates.

In the fall season the Pirates’ best finish was third out of five teams in the War at the Moor event hosted by Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. NCMC’s spring season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Coach Owen is very familiar with Tharp as she coached her in high school. Owen stated, “I worked with Gretchen for several years as she golfed for the Blue Jays. She is capable of being a good collegiate golfer and I look forward to working with her again over the next two years.”
