• The explosion of a kerosene stove at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dragoo caused considerable damage to the kitchen and first floor living rooms. The kitchen was badly charred and smoke damaged the furnishings in other rooms.

• One of Tarkio’s outstanding Tarkio College alumni, Dr. William Kirk, has recently been promoted to assistant general manager of the organic chemical department of the DuPont corporation in Wilmington, Delaware.

• Tarkio High School’s 59th commencement exercises are to be held next Friday evening, May 18, in the high school auditorium. Dr. Clay J. Anderson of Warrensburg will give the address to the 43 graduates. Dr. Anderson is professor of economics at the Central Missouri State Teachers College in Warrensburg.

May 14, 1970

• Mrs. Ted Nixon, president of the Tarkio Business and Professional Women, was honored at the annual Mother and Daughter Banquet Monday night as their queen for “Outstanding Service” to the organization.

• Miss Adele Henry, John Bell, Charles Davis, and H.J. Schmidt, all of Tarkio, have been signed as members of the Mule Barn Theatre’s Summer company. Also working as a member of the Mule Barn Company will be Miss Kayla Musch.

• A new surface was put on the Joseph Stevenson Memorial Park tennis court in Tarkio this week by the Kyler Co. The court was constructed 12 years ago and this is the first resurfacing.

May 11, 1995

  The Tarkio Rotarians held a ham dinner Sunday, May 7, in the Tarkio Elementary School Gym.

• Tarkio Elementary second graders and their teachers planted a tree in memory of the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing. The National Arbor Day Foundation donated trees to post offices, which then distributed them for the planting.

• Glenn R. Scott is the new pastor at the First Baptist Church in Tarkio. His family will join him in Tarkio mid-May. They include his wife, Jayne, and children, Tre, age 14, Tim, age 11, and Amanda, age 10.
